Since 2013, MCIT Studio has offered its unique integration of the Michael Chekhov and Sanford Meisner techniques. No other studio in San Diego offers this approach! These forms liberate actors from mental obstacles by freeing the body, voice, and imagination. Actors learn to be in the moment, and respond truthfully with full emotional expression. Actors also acquire skills to work independently and prepare for auditions, rehearsals, and performances. Classes run from September - July. We encourage starting in the fall but will take students at the start of any new 8-week session.
MCIT Studio offers a 1-year* and 2-year Comprehensive Certificate Program for intensive instruction in both techniques. Whether looking to improve your public speaking skills or to enhance your acting career, you will gain tools that will benefit you for a lifetime.

1-Year* comprehensive

INTENSIVE STUDY:
Students in this accelerated certificate program take four classes per week, diving into each technique twice a week. This ensures full immersion and allows students to progress quickly.
MONTHLY SEMINARS:
Additional monthly half-day workshops help students develop skills outside of the techniques. Topics include script analysis, mask work, Rasa Boxes, auditioning, Viewpoints, sword fighting, and more! Classes are taught by local practitioners, connecting students to more Theatre professionals in San Diego.

- Register and pay the full fee by August 22nd to save $500 off the total! (not valid for monthly payment plans)
*Due to the nature of the Meisner training, the actual time to completion is just over one year. See timeline below.
Absences or lack of preparation can extend the timeline further.

how to apply
The 1-year program requires a brief application before students will be accepted. Please email the following to Executive Director Katie Turner by August 1, 2025 to be considered, [email protected]:
- A brief letter explaining your previous experience and your interest in the program
- Your resume and a photo of yourself (does not need to be a formal headshot)
- Share a link to a video recording of the following:
- Choose a single song lyric, a single line from a poem, or a single line from a nursery rhyme, and film yourself performing this line in 3 different ways
- Example: Perform "jack and jill went up the hill"; the first version might be of someone saying this line while frightened, another might be while roaring drunk, and a third might be as if they were being interrogated by the police (just examples!)
- We want to see your creativity and imagination at work, so go wild!
- Choose a single song lyric, a single line from a poem, or a single line from a nursery rhyme, and film yourself performing this line in 3 different ways
- It is not necessary to submit a monologue, but you can if you like. Please email a link to your recording.

2-Year COMPREHENSIVE Certificate option

The 1-Year certificate is our fastest and most cost-effective program. However, if that option is not what's best for you, we also offer a 2-Year program, which takes place over two academic years (September-July of each year).

While we encourage the integration of our techniques for maximum benefit, the following options exist for students wanting to focus on one technique at a time:

- $4,300 if paid in advance or $225 monthly for 20 months

For those needing more flexibility in their commitment to our classes. Priority enrollment will be reserved for those enrolled in our certificate programs. However, if you prefer to take classes by session rather than commit to the full program, you are still welcome to study with us as space allows. You would pay the following per 8-week session based on what classes you choose to take. Monthly payment options are available with completion of a payment contract. The Pay-By-Session option includes free participation in our Saturday Seminars.
