Dates: June 2, 9, 16 and 23rd, 1-4pm
This 4-week intensive, taught by Casting Director Gary Giambo and voice actor Callie Ray, will be an introduction to 4 key areas essential to today’s VO industry. Each week we will focus on 1 of those areas. A class cap of ten participants ensures that everyone will have time to read, receive and implement feedback, and ask questions. .
Week 1 – Commercial – This week focuses on hub of the voiceover business–commercial VO. Learn how to lift words off the page and sound like you’re talking when you are always cold reading. We’ll also cover how to direct yourself, record, and send in an audition to your agent or client, ) and what they expect.
Week 2 – Narration-Promo-Advanced Commercial
Dig deeper into the world of Commercial VO– learn how to approach long-form commercial work and network promos.
Week 3 – Animation
Create grounded characters, - from children’s shows to adult animation or broadcast content characters. You will learn where to find them, experiment with them, build them, and how to make them stand out.
Week 4 – Video Games
Our last week focuses on inhabiting the character and bringing them to life, working with high stakes and heightened language, putting action into the text, creating effort sounds, and serving the story.
Teacher Bios:
Gary Giambo
For the past 30 years, Gary Giambo has served as voice director, producer, casting director and teacher working with every major voiceover artist in Hollywood. His easy going style provides comfortable assurance in the booth, consistently coaxing the best performance out of his talent.
Callie Ray
Callie Ray has been a working voice actor for a decade, with clients including the NFL, Dolce & Gabbana, Wendy's, Chase, Legoland, and many more- and Gary was her first teacher! Her enthusiastic, nurturing teaching style helps learners relax and find space to create from joy and curiosity. She is currently the voice of Polestar EV cars, and has just wrapped recording on a soon-to-be-announced project by Artificer Games. callieray.com
